Does Droopify use the official eBay API? Is a "non-API" service better?

1 min read

Yes: Droopify works with the official eBay APIs, the tools eBay itself provides to sellers and third-party software, and using them does not reduce your visibility or sales in any way.

How Droopify connects to your eBay store

When you connect a store, you sign in directly on eBay's page and authorize Droopify there: Droopify never receives or stores the store's password. From then on it publishes, updates prices and quantities, reads orders and sends messages and offers through the eBay APIs, as eBay intends for third-party tools. The procedure is in Connect an eBay store.

Do the APIs hurt visibility or sales?

No. A listing published through the API is an eBay listing like any other: eBay does not show or rank it differently based on the tool used to create it. Visibility and sales depend on what the customer sees and on how the store performs, for example:

  • title, item specifics, images and price of the listing;
  • shipping times and product availability;
  • feedback and seller level of the store;
  • any sponsorship.

Claims that "the API penalizes listings" mostly come from those who sell "non-API" services and have no basis.

What "non-API" services are

They are tools that don't use the eBay APIs but act on the eBay website on your behalf, as if you were clicking, often with the store's credentials. They give no visibility or sales advantage over the APIs: the APIs are the official channel, provided directly by eBay, to manage a store with third-party software.
